Principal Thomas Welcome Letter to JAMS Community

July 2, 2025

Dear Jane Addams Middle School Families and Community,

I am honored and delighted to introduce myself as the Acting Principal of Jane Addams Middle School for the 2025-26 school year. It is a privilege to join such a vibrant and dedicated community, and I am excited to begin this journey with you.

I come to JAMS with experience as a school leader in Washington State, Florida, and Louisiana, most recently serving as a substitute administrator at Madison Middle School in Seattle Public Schools. My career began in the classroom with teaching certifications in social studies and speech, and it has been my joy to work across the K-12 spectrum, supporting students, families, and staff in a variety of roles. I have overseen departments including Special Education, Section 504 accommodations, and Multilingual Programming, always with a focus on equity and high-quality learning for every student.

The arts hold a special place in my heart, and I am passionate about ensuring that theater, music, and visual arts continue to flourish at JAMS. I look forward to working with our talented staff, students, and families to celebrate and expand these programs.

I am also excited to share another important update as we prepare for the 2025-26 school year. In addition to my appointment as Acting Principal, I am pleased to announce that Karen Maguigad has been named as the new Assistant Principal of Jane Addams Middle School.

Ms. Maguigad was selected by the JAMS hiring team from a strong pool of applicants, and her experience and dedication to student success will be a tremendous asset to our community. In the weeks ahead, we will complete the formal assistant principal hiring process and provide opportunities for families, staff, and students to meet and welcome our new administrative team closer to the beginning of the school year.

Together, we are committed to fostering a safe, inclusive, and thriving learning environment at JAMS.

We are grateful to the JAMS hiring team for their trust and to the entire community for their warm welcome. We look forward to meeting many of you and hearing your hopes and dreams for our school and hope you will join us in shaping the future of JAMS together.  We are excited for all that we will accomplish together in the year ahead!

With gratitude and enthusiasm,

Angela M. Thomas
