    After you submit your ASB request or proposal:

    Please stop by the Main Office to see if your ASB request has been approved.

    Steps to Starting a Middle School Club

    1. Establish your club’s purpose
      1. Develop a vision/mission statement
    2. Identify an adult supervisor/advisor
      1. If the supervisor is not a Seattle School District employee they must complete the clearance process. Please go to the volunteering page on our website under “Get Involved”
    3. Create Club Bylaws – Must submit Bylaws with initial club proposal to ASB
    4. Submit a proposal to ASB (use the ASB proposal and request form)
      1. Submit your bylaws with the proposal
      2. Submit any other relevant information (ie: notes from meeting to approve club including attendance and a calendar of possible events)
      3. If meetings take place using School Facilities permits must be requested and approved. Include space and time of meetings in proposal or submit a permit request using the link on the JAMS website here.
    5. Begin meeting consistently
      1. Make sure your permits have been approved. Submit the Club Application Cover Sheet or check the website under Permits or the ASB approvals link
      2. Always take attendance and take minutes/notes and keep them for your records
    6. Create Yearly operating agreements to include outcomes/goals for the school year
    7. Each year clubs are required to submit their calendar and budget for the following year in May of the current school year
    8. Each year in August or September clubs must submit the Returning Club Application and submit it to the ASB box in the Main Office

    Associated Student Body (ASB) Funds

    An Associated Student Body (ASB) is a formal organization of students, including sub-component or affiliated student groups, formed at each public school within Seattle Schools. The programs of the ASB are any optional, noncredit, extra-curricular activity conducted in whole or in part by or on behalf of an ASB, during or outside regular school hours, within or outside school grounds and facilities and conducted with the approval of the school district or under the official designee to whom authority has been delegated to act on behalf of an ASB or sub-component group. ASB programs and activities must be of a cultural, athletic, recreational or social nature.

    Money generated or collected, including fundraising proceeds, in conjunction with ASB activities, is public money which must be deposited into the ASB Fund. ASB public money may only be used for optional, noncredit, extra-curricular events and activities of a cultural, athletic, recreational, or social nature.

    In general, carryover amounts from one year to another are due to anticipated expenditures for student activities which take more than a year of fundraising. These funds are not available for curricular or graded student activities.

    This financial report reflects the summary ASB account balances by school. Beginning balances, current year transactions, and ending balances as of August 31, immediately prior to that school year. This report is unaudited, and does not reflect final ending balances for the fiscal year.

    Posting of this report to each school’s website ensures compliance with RCW 28A.325.050 and is not representative of a school’s full fiscal year transactions.
