*** NEW! BOUNDARIES AND STUDENT ASSIGNMENT PLAN UPDATE ***
Have you thought about the Student Assignment Plan lately? Boundaries? High School? Advanced Learning? There are some pretty big and complicated decisions that the district staff and the school board are working on.

The school board had a meeting on Wednesday Dec. 7. They did not approve the Student Assignment Plan with the change to 5 HCC pathways. It appears that the pathway decision is going to link very closely with the high school boundary recommendations. The high school boundary task force meets/met on December 14. More proposals will be coming out and things will likely move very quickly starting the first week of January. Stay tuned.

If you're new to the above discussion, here's a summary and some links to information at the Seattle Schools website:
In the 2019-20 school year, Seattle Public Schools will reopen Lincoln High School, a comprehensive high school in Northwest Seattle. Reopening Lincoln will require redrawing the attendance area high school boundaries. The High School Boundary Task Force has made recommendations for high school boundary changes to be implemented in 2019-20.
At the same time, the district is reviewing the Student Assignment Plan, including access to high school advanced learning opportunities.

    Details can be found here:http://www.seattleschools.org/cms/One.aspx?portalId=627&pageId=744707

The school district staff presented a plan to the school board for approval last week. The school board did NOT approve the plan. The minutes of the meeting have not been posted but there are many resources including presentations about the Student Assignment Plan in the school board section of the SPS website.

One especially helpful link is to the work session on the Student Assignment Plan.

    DATA VERIFICATION SHEETS

SPS is rolling out online Data Verification Sheets. Families should have received an e-mail inviting them to review their students' information through your Source account. The e-mail will include instructions on setting up your Source account, should you not already have one. Some notes about this process:
    ● Only ONE parent PER student PER school year may fill out this form. Any other parent who goes to The Source and clicks on the Data Verification Form link will receive an error message.
    ● The e-mail invitation will be sent to the parent designated as the “initial” contact when you registered your child and will be sent to the e-mail address that is current in our database.
    ● Please feel free to contact us in the office if you need assistance navigating this new process.

MATH CLUB SECOND QUARTER SIGN UPS
Are you interested in doing more math and looking for a chance to connect with other students who are equally passionate? The JAMS Math Club is continuing winter quarter. Our focus will be on exploring new topics, working on challenging problems and exploring the hidden beauty of Mathematics. During the course of the year we will also offer opportunities to participate in various contests such as AMC8 and MathCounts.
    Location: Room 109
    Meeting Times: Tuesdays 3:50-4:50 PM
This session will run from Jan. 2-Mar. 27 on regular school days.
Pickup Policy: There is no after school care or bus so parents will be responsible for pickup or kids will get home on their own. Parents will need to sign a permission slip letting kids self release. I will generally stay 10 minutes at the end of each session
Fees: A voluntary $50 donation will help finance materials and contest entry fees.
Spaces: For winter quarter, I'm going to cap at 15 students with a first come/first served registration policy.
Registration: Please complete the registration form at the end of this mail or download a copy from the following link: http://bit.ly/2ycnTty and email it here.

    YMCA REQUESTS PARENT INPUT
    Dear JAMS Parents,

This is an opportunity for you to shape your students middle school experience and influence the services at Jane Addams Middle School. Please contact Georgina Ramirez to share your thoughts and desires as we move into the new year. Together, we are working to create a positive community, positive middle school experience. Together, we can do more.

JAMS PTSA SEEKS NOMINATING COMMITTEE VOLUNTEERS
The PTSA is looking for a few willing members to serve on our Nominating Committee. The job is short but the impact is great. As a Nominating Committee member, you will be able to help shape our PTSA Board for the 2018/19 school year. The membership will elect the Nominating Committee at our next General Membership meeting on January 18th so, please email Kathy Gerke at jamsptsapresident@gmail.com if you are interested in this job.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------
    ATTENDANCE ZONE
Invest in an alarm clock and let your child make the choice. Even if they pick out the ugliest, tackiest clock you have ever seen, let it be their decision. Selecting that alarm may help instill a sense of responsibility about getting up on time for school.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------
SEEKING FUNDRAISING COORDINATOR FOR LANDSCAPE CONSTRUCTION
The JAMS Outdoor Landscape Design Committee is seeking a fundraising coordinator from the community to help guide fundraising for construction. If you or someone you know has fundraising experience, please ask if they would be interested in helping. This is currently a volunteer position, but the committee is not opposed to creating a paid position with future funding. Please contact Colleen Weinstein if you have questions or to volunteer! Email JAMSDREAMBIG@gmail.com.
