Our wonderful Librarian is looking for parent volunteers to help out in the library during lunch hours, below is the sign up for those interested! Thank You!

Lunch time is a happening time at JAMS and staff is asking for a few extra adults to help with monitoring the halls, giving gentle reminders of lunchtime etiquette and an extra set of eyes to help make the lunch hour run smoothly. If you can help, they would greatly appreciate it. It can be a weekly commitment or monthly; whatever you can offer. Sign up below if you are able to help out. Thank You.

We still need lots of help. Some days the kids are crossing with skeleton crews, on others the kids have no crossing guards. Please consider taking a shift, or signing up to sub.  Sign Up Genius

The Signup Genius shifts have specific dates, but you're signing up for a recurring weekly shift.  Email: with questions or to find out how to help with special events.

Drivers, we're asking for your help getting buses through in a more timely way - it'll help the kids, free up staff time, and allow crossing guards to focus on pedestrians:
    1) Please always leave the center of 34th Ave NE clear. Stay either in the pickup line next to the JAMS curb, or move fully into the exit line on the residential side of 34th.
    2) In the afternoons, please consider using only 35th or 110th for pickup. We share special-needs buses with Nathan Hale; they have to travel from Hale and then wait in the long backups on 115th. Thus both the Hale and JAMS special-needs students are having even-longer waits. Just by switching to 35th or 110th for afternoon pickup, you can help.
Thank you for looking out for the kids!

*** NEW! JAMS MATH CLUB ***

Are you interested in doing more math and looking for a chance to connect with other students who are equally passionate? The JAMS Math Club is starting up again this year. Our focus will be on exploring new topics, working on challenging problems and exploring the hidden beauty of Mathematics. During the course of the year we will also offer opportunities to participate in various contests such as AMC8 and MathCounts.

    Meeting Times: Tuesday 3:50-4:50PM
This session will run from 10/10 - 12/12 on regular school days.

Fees: There will be a voluntary $50 donation requested once we have an ASB account that will be used to finance materials and contest entry fees.

Spaces: For the first quarter, I'm going to cap at 15 students with a first come/first served registration policy.

Registration: opens Friday 9/22. Please download and complete the registration form from the following link: and email it to

What: This past spring Jane Addams Middle School received a Department of Neighborhoods grant to fund a Landscape Conceptual Design Master plan for the Jane Addams property. Bring a potluck dish and come prepared to brainstorm changes to our outdoor spaces.
Who: JAMS students, families, neighbors, community members and users of the JAMS athletic fields. We have hired local design firm Johnson+Southerland to help us.
    When: Thursday October 26th. 6:30-8:30PM
Where: Jane Addams Middle School Cafeteria, 11051 34th AVE NE
Why: We want all users of the JAMS property to have a say in how they want this space to look, feel and contribute to our community. Bring your creative thoughts and ideas as to how we can make the outdoor spaces at JAMS awesome!
Save these dates: The Design Selection community meeting will be Thursday, 11/30/17, from 6:30-8:15 PM. The Final Design Reveal community meeting will be Thursday, 1/25/18 from 6:30-8:15 PM. All three will be held in the JAMS cafeteria. Questions? Email

We recently received a parent request for quick and easy ways to link to the JAMS calendar. Here is how to enter all of the important JAMS dates automatically:
Method one: Go to the Seattle Public Schools JAMS calendar at
*Select “Yearly” from the drop down menu (you can choose any chunk of time, or export single events, too)
*Export the calendar using the calendar icon with a green arrow
    *Choose your format and download
    *Add it to your calendar

Be sure to do this twice, for 2017 and 2018. It will only import the JAMS dates already entered on the school calendar—it has all the breaks and big events, but more details will be added as time goes on and it won’t update automatically.
Method two: to automatically receive roughly weekly updates, you can subscribe to the JAMS school calendar. Cut and paste the directional below into Ical or Google calendars wherever it requests the calendar addresses you wish to receive:

JAMS PTSA needs one Traffic and Transportation Safety Co-Chair to help Maria Renninger for the 2017-18 school year. This is a great PTSA board position and includes interaction with grateful students and fabulous parents. The system is already well established, so it will be easy to take it over.

JAMS PTSA is also looking for someone to fill these additional non-board volunteer positions:

    STEAM Fair Committee Chair
    Staff Appreciation Committee Chair

Please contact: to learn more about these positions.

LOVE TO SING? Join the JAMS After-School Vocal Jazz Group. We meet on Mondays immediately after school from 4-5:30 pm. First session is October 2. Class is taught by professional jazz vocalist Kelley Johnson, Register at FOJAM.ORG.  Cost will vary depending upon enrollment but is expected to run around $115 per student. Questions?
