WELCOME TO THE 2017-18 SCHOOL YEAR!

We are looking forward to an exciting school year. There are several changes this year – new bell times, early release Wednesdays, a new PTSA Board and some new activities throughout the year. We hope you will join us for all of them, the first being the PTSA Board Meeting on September 11 and on October 3, a parent social and first General Membership meeting will precede Curriculum Night Programming. Visit the JAMS website for more: http://addamsms.seattleschools.org/school_involvement/ptsa.

You are invited to join the Jane Addams PTSA. Have fun while:
    · Participating in a community of families and teachers supporting the academic and social needs of our students.

    • ·  Learning what's happening at the school.

    • ·  Having a voice in the decision making.

There are two ways you can join:

    1. Online. Visit www.pt-avenue.com/join/ (there is a $1 processing fee to join online).
    2. Return the membership form you received in the mail with your student's schedule to the JAMS office. Membership is $15/member and scholarships are available using the PTSA membership form. Email jamsptsamembership@gmail.com with any questions (or for a copy of the form).

We’re looking forward to a fantastic year. Please contact us with any questions.

STARTING A DRAMA BOOSTER CLUB AT JAMS

Do you have a student at Jane Addams MS who is dramatic, creative, a problem solver, someone who wants to work behind the scenes, or a student who is curious about being a part of a theater production? If yes, then please contact us to help create a robust JAMS Drama Booster Club.

Several JAMS parents are volunteering to start up a JAMS Drama Booster. We need your involvement as we begin this process. If you have experience with fundraising or submitting paperwork for a Booster Club please contact Steph_strickland@yahoo.com or llswol@hotmail.com to join our team of volunteers. To find out more about us, attend the September 11 PTSA meeting.

    SEEKING TRANSPORTATION AND SAFETY CO-CHAIR

JAMS PTSA needs one Traffic and Transportation Safety Co-Chair to help Maria Renninger for the 2017-18 school year. This is a great PTSA board position and includes interaction with grateful students and fabulous parents. The system is already well established, so it will be easy to take it over.

JAMS PTSA is also looking for someone to fill these additional non-board volunteer positions:

    STEAM Fair Committee Chair
    Staff Appreciation Committee Chair

Please contact: jamsptsapresident@gmail.com to learn more about these positions.

    VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

    Crossing Guard Volunteers

We need more parents to help students cross safely to school. The JAMS traffic safety crew is a fun and friendly group, and you'll get lots of smiles and "thank yous" from the kids. New and 6th grade parents: Traffic safety crew is a great way to get to know JAMS and the staff! Commitment can be as little as 1/2 hour per week. We start the first day of school, and we take new crew members throughout the year.

For a map of clockwise traffic flow around JAMS campus, visit the link HERE. Contact JAMStrafficsafety@gmail.com with questions or to find out how to help with

special events. To sign up for a time slot (or several) please visit Sign Up Genius

    Ultimate Frisbee

We need volunteers! Currently, we are planning for three teams: A team, B team, and a 6th grade team. Last year we had enough adults for five teams. With a projected number of over 100 students, we will need more support in order to assure a safe learning environment and avoid cutting students from teams. Experience is not necessary! We have three great knowledgeable coaches that will help support you and the students in gaining the skills. If you are interested, please contact Chad Barnes at 206-252-4468 or cpbarnes@seattleschools.org.
