    Dear Families,

As we wind up the most challenging time in my career, I am not quite sure how to end the year. We have experienced so much, and we have learned so much.

Your students continue to inspire and amaze us, and while we all very much need a summer break, we know that many educators and students still need connection. It brought a ton of joy to us to see students this week at locker clean out and to connect with them during remote classes.

Next Friday is the official last day of school and the day that we'll receive Seattle Public Schools parameters for next fall. We will have remote focus groups this summer to gather student and family voice in our planning. I will communicate times/dates via email as well as through Schoology. The administrative team will be working for most of the summer, and we will keep the “Program Support” pages in Schoology updated and active so that students can contact us and get important information.

    Summer Counseling Support

Contact myself or a school counselor if you would like your student to receive emotional counseling support through the summer. SPS will be offering both group and 1:1 sessions with SPS counselors and mental health specialists.  Groups will meet remotely on Monday/Wednesdays from 2:00-2:50

Students do not need to be registered for summer programming to access services.

    Student Racial Equity Team

We had 18 students join us on Wednesday, and the students requested that this group continues over the summer. Any student can join, and we will update the summer dates and times via Schoology. We are considering reading the book, This Book is Anti-Racist together as well as continuing to talk about the current national events.

    Lockers and Computers, last call

We will pass out computers next Tuesday, June 16 from 9-12, and Thursday, June 18, from 1-4pm. This will be the final opportunity to get a computer and locker contents before August. No pre-registration required. We are no longer distributing computers at our lunch sites.

Register Your Child for The Summer of Learning

Details and registration can be found on the grade level pages of our summer school webpage: https://www.seattleschools.org/academics/summer_school

8th Grade Send Off (From Mr. Booker and the 8th grade student promotion planning team)

It’s that time of year to celebrate YOUR 8th grade child and their journey at Jane Addams Middle School. On Thursday, June 18th we will celebrate this momentous occasion by having a drive-through “Send Off” beginning at 6:00 pm.  There will be cones set up outside of school to direct traffic through JAMS traditional balloon arch and JAMS teacher celebration row. Please decorate your cars, bicycles or whatever your regular mode of transportation is in celebration of your child. The transportation lineup will start at 5:30 pm on 34th Ave NE at the JAMS bus loading zone and follow our normal traffic pattern.

There will be a slide show of your child’s journey, an announcement of your child’s name and music bumping. Please bring your energy and noise as we celebrate our 8th graders on Thursday, June 18th at 6pm.

    Yearbooks

Yearbooks will not arrive until late August. We do have a yearbook reserved for every current 8th grader and are able to provide these to 8th graders who have not yet bought one thanks to a generous donation. So, we will see you all again, in late August for a socially distant

    Lunch and Family Student Support

We are continuing to support families with groceries through the support of our PTSA and the Alliance for Education. As we head into summer and our counselors have limited hours, please contact me directly.

    Take care,
