    8th Grade Camp

    Dear 8th Grade Families:

This letter is to clarify the dates of the Camp Colman Trip for 8th grade students. Many of you received communications and paperwork from your students’ science teachers. The dates were unfortunately, not correct for many students.

In order to continue our goal of every student well connected with a small community of learners, we are grouping students by whole advisories for this trip.  Most advisors will also attend camp with their group. The other features of the trip will remain the same. We all know that communities are built, by the time we spend together.  While students will not spend the entire time with their advisory, we do know that there will be times (bus rides, dinner and post dinner team building activities for example) when advisories will be together.  This is the power of an overnight trip with a diverse group of learners.

So much of the welcoming student culture of Jane Addams is due to the strong relationships built within advisory groups. As we prepare our students for the transition to high school, starting the year connected and grounded within the advisory is an important piece in ensuring that our 8th graders make this transition well supported.

We will also send home paper information through advisories. Please be sure to ask your child who their advisory teacher is, and we will be able to talk more about the trip on curriculum night on October 3. Please do not hesitate to contact Mr. Friedle, who is the administrative lead for this trip.
