    2017 Summer Music Events and Camps

    Summer is just around the corner and there are several summer music camps in the  area. The following is a list provided by the JAMS Music Department.

    Band and Orchestra

    SPS Summer Music

    Dates TBD (Three weeks)

    9 a.m. to noon, Ballard H.S.

    Best for students who are entering 6th grade or have completed Beginning or Intermediate Band or Orchestra.

    Marrowstone in the City (MITC – “Mit-see”)

    July 10-21, 9 a.m. to noon

    Shorecrest High School: or Overlake School / Redmond: July 17-28,

    Best for students who have completed at least Junior Band or Orchestra. Saxophones not eligible. Highly recommended.

    Cornish College of the Arts Super Strings

    July 24-29, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

    Join a faculty ranging from Seattle Symphony members and Oberlin Conservatory professors to Scottish Fiddle Champions and professional rock violinists in a camp that offers a broad diversity of styles and genres.

    Seattle Saxophone Institute

    July 24-27 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. (Grades 7-9); July 31-August 3, 9 a.m.- 3 p.m. (Grades 9-12)

    Not just jazz! Specialists focused on all aspects of sax playing.

    Cornish College of the Arts Intermediate Jazz Workshop

    July 17-22, 9 a.m-4 p.m. Small combo work with low student-instructor ratio, emphasis on improvisation and music theory. Highly recommended. Advanced Jazz workshop also available, see Deb for class recommendation.

    Shoreline Jazz Camp

    August 7-11, 9 a.m.–3 p.m., Shorecrest High School.

    Good for students with some jazz background but less improvisation experience as well as those comfortable improvising. Highly recommended.

    Mel Brown Summer Jazz Workshop

    July 30-August 5, sleep-away, Portland area.

    A fun week of jazz with ensembles and combos for all skill levels. A great option for those looking to widen their Seattle-centric instructor base.
