Library: How It Works

When can students go to the library?
Students can drop in without a pass before school (8:25 a.m. - 8:45 a.m.), during lunchtime (once excused from the lunchroom), and after school for quick checkout. Students who want to stay longer after school need to plan in advance with the librarian.

Students can visit the library during class with teacher permission and a hall pass. Teachers frequently bring classes to the library to check out new books and use computers.

What is the checkout policy?
Students can check out up to four books at a time. Checkout is for three weeks. Students can renew a book (to keep it longer) by request. If you have an overdue book, you can still check out books (up to four total), but please return your overdue books ASAP.

How do students place holds on books?
Students can log in to the catalog at school, or request at the checkout desk.

Can people recommend books that the library should have?
Yes! Please recommend great books for JAMS students. You can email the librarian (leamsterburton@seattleschools.org) or leave a note at the checkout desk.

You can also recommend useful websites and tech tools for JAMS students; we'll post links here on the library webpage.

Do you charge library fines?
The school library does not charge late fines for overdue books. If a book is lost, damaged, or destroyed, you may have to pay the full replacement cost. Please speak to the librarian about a lost or damaged library book.
